Summer is just about gone and winter is on the way. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to have the appropriate auto repair services taken care of at the recommended intervals. This will not only potentially save you $$$ in auto repair expense, it can literally be a lifesaver in freezing conditions.

Before winter arrives in all its glory, here are five important auto repair services that will help ensure your vehicle drives as safe as possible:

  1. Oil Change and Other Fluids – Don’t neglect to change the oil at the right interval—your owner’s manual is a good guide. Change the filter too (with as high a quality as your budget will allow). Check all the other fluids and filters (coolant, brakes, transmission). They can either be topped off—or flushed as needed.
  2. Brakes – Check the condition of the brake rotors, pads, and calipers. If the pads are too thin, the rotors warped, or the calipers cracked, don’t put off a needed brake repair. Don’t be the cause of an accident because of failing brakes.
  3. Lights – Make sure the lights (both exterior and interior) are working properly. You want to see and be seen on a dark winter’s night. If you can’t replace a bulb yourself, your mechanic can easily replace it relatively inexpensively.
  4. Windshield and Wipers – Make sure the windshield wipers are in good condition and the washer fluid reservoir filled so you are ready for heavy fall or winter rains. Repair a chipped windshield or replace if cracked--it will only get worse.
  5. Tires – Make the air pressure in all of your tires is right. Keep up with regular tire rotations, and have the wheel alignment or tire balance checked if you are having steering problems. The spare tire should be in good condition too for an unexpected flat tire.

Reap the benefits of keeping up with regular auto repair services are:
