Car axles are just as important as brakes and tires when it comes to the safe operation of your car. Because axles connect to the wheels, they bear the weight of your entire vehicle. In most cars, they are a crucial component of the vehicle's suspension system (car struts and car shocks), and the steering system.

Car axles are far more complex than a bar between two wheels (like you find on a little red wagon). Today, most axles are split axles, which means the wheel on each side is attached to a separate shaft. This allows independent suspension of the left and right wheels. This provides a much smoother ride. It also improves traction and extends tire life as it permits the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds as the automobile turns. Some cars have a transaxle, a combination of the transmission and the axle. In rear-wheel vehicles, the engine is connected to a driveshaft which turns the drive axle in the back of the car.

Braking Efficiency: Car Shocks and Car Struts are Team Players!

Your car's suspension system, made up of shock absorbers and struts, not only keeps your car riding smoothly, it keeps your wheels in proper contact with the road. Worn out car shocks and car struts increases your braking distance and can result in serious problems.

Remember: A smooth comfortable ride doesn't just happen. It takes a team effort between car shocks, car struts and brakes—vital to safe steering and braking.
