Oh no, I’m stuck in my driveway with a vehicle that won’t start! Have you said that before? When this happens, the first suspect is that your vehicle needs a car battery replacement. Car batteries are probably the most sensitive component in the vehicle, and it doesn't take much for them to go bad. It requires a considerable amount of power to turn over an engine and start a car. A car battery is designed to produce a large burst of power and voltage in a short period of time.

There are several potential causes for a faulty car battery, such as:

  • Faulty Connection -- There are cables attached to the two battery posts that connect to vehicle’s starter. Often the screws or bolts attaching these cables loosen and the electoral connection fails. When this happens your car won't start at all. This problem can be alleviated usually by tightening the connection cables.
  • Corrosion -- If the battery cables are tight, the next suspect culprit is corrosion. Corrosion is an acid byproduct that collects on the posts. As corrosion collects the electrical connection consistently grows weaker until the car will not start. If you're having problems, check the battery posts to see if they're corroded. Cleaning them will correct the problem.
  • Inactivity -- If you've let your car sit idle for more than 2 weeks, the battery may have lost some of its power because the power has slowly drained away as the alternator has not been running to keep the battery charged. Vehicles need to be started every week or so.

How to Avoid Car Battery Problems!

As we have learned, car batteries are vital for a car’s reliable operation and performance. Proper care and maintenance will ensure their long life. If not, a car battery replacement will be necessary. Eventually, however, all batteries will have to be replaced. When this is required, purchasing one of high quality that will serve you well for an extended amount of time.
