Need some good news? Here's a tip to save money! Make sure your vehicle has the proper wheel alignment. If it is dragging down the road with a poor car alignment, you are probably wearing out your tires and using more fuel for each mile that you drive. Not only will you improve driving safety and create a smoother ride, your tires will last longer and you will save money at the gas pump!
Extreme tire wear is caused by problems, such as:
- Improper wheel alignment (toe angle or camber)
- Improper balancing
- Worn or damaged steering and/or suspension parts
- Hard cornering
Your auto mechanic will probably recommend one of the following solutions, especially if you have just purchased new tires, been in an accident, hit a large pothole, or had some suspension or steering components replaced.
- Correct wheel alignment
- Correct wheel balancing
- Check/replace steering and/or suspension parts
- Rotate or replace tire, based on tread depth
A wheel alignment specialist that has been specially trained to use computerized technology can restore your truck or car alignment to as close to factory specifications as mechanically possible (for most vehicles). As part of a car alignment service, the steering and suspension systems should be completely inspected, computer measurements taken, and then the adjustments made.
Tip to Remember: Typically, a wheel alignment service is recommended for every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
